The renovated Rabati Castle, located in Akhaltsikhe, was originally established in the 9th century and then rebuilt by the Ottomans. This is a unique place which combines different cultures. Firstly, it was occupied by Jewish population, then Armenians, Greeks, Russians and others settled in this small district. This is why Rabati complex hosts temples of several religions.
Rabati is the only fortress that was completely renovated in recent years and thus it helps us understand the past not by observing ruins, but by walking in a functioning complex, with museums, temples, cafes and even a hotel and spa. The museum collection houses manuscripts, printed books, rugs and ethnographic material that is over 10 centuries old. Touring temples and fortifications of Rabati makes you feel like a king of the castle.
