Who could have imagined that this small country, where people predominantly wore black and struggled to get rid of Soviet uniform, would gradually become trendy in the fashion world? Maybe it has to do with the fact that Demna Gvasalia, a Georgian fashion designer, is now the Creative Director of Balenciaga. Maybe it’s because of globalisation and information access. I don’t know when it happened, but suddenly, Georgia is in style.

Vogue dedicated several articles to the emerging Georgian fashion. After reading it my friends and I began asking: where is this all going on? Here, in our hometown? Nonetheless, here are the articles:

“You’ll Never Guess Which Country Is Having a Throwback Style Moment.” – Vogue

“All the Best New It Girls Are From Georgia (The Country, Not the State)” – Vogue

“At Tbilisi Fashion Week, the Vetements Effect Is Hard to Miss.” – Vogue

Thus, if you are looking for a unique outfit or, perhaps, if you would like to select a one-of-a-kind gift, here are some designer shops you probably should visit:

Matériel Label unites several talented Georgian designers, offering a ready-to-wear collection. The store is worth a visit, offering a various choice of designs. Its address is 22 Leselidze Street.

Some great shops for Georgian fashion designs include the clothes of Diana Kvariani, at 4A Takaishvili Street, also Lako Bukia, at 39A Paliashvili Street.

And, last but not least, the name I remember from my youth, when the concept of “Georgian fashion” was fresh and unattainable: Avtandil Tskvitinidze. Vogue writes that he is known for “androgynous silhouettes with a linear and postmodern flair, as well as a knack for color-blocking and bold patterns”. He has two ready-to-wear shops, one located at 25 Leselidze Street and another one – in Tbilisi Mall.

In addition, if after all this designer shopping you decide to engage in a more casual endeavor, perhaps to replace that shirt you have stained with coffee or to look for a new pair of pants, you can always drive up to one of the two malls in Tbilisi, either Tbilisi Mall, located in Dighomi, on the highway that leads to Mtskheta, or East Point, located on the highway that leads to Kakheti.

Both places carry essential retail brands such as Zara, Bershka, New Yorker, Marks and Spencer, Banana Republic, Gap, etc. In addition. you can also find movie theatres (including IMAX) and food courts. Basically, they are regular malls, all benefits and trials included.

Happy shopping!
